Insurance and reimbursement

Physiotherapy coverage by private insurance plans

The vast majority of plans, insurance companies cover the costs of physiotherapy. Some insurance plans may, however, require a doctor’s prescription before accepting claims. Also, certain insurance companies require treatments to be provided by a physiotherapist.

First contact your insurer to find out what services are covered and what conditions must be met for treatments to be reimbursed under your insurance plan.

If your plan provides for reimbursement of physiotherapy treatments provided by a practitioner licensed to practice in Quebec, your insurer should also reimburse services provided by a physical rehabilitation therapist. These professionals are members of OPPQ and are authorized to provide physiotherapy services in accordance with the conditions and restrictions pertaining to their license category.
